The Bible uses the word "THINK" 86 times in the Old and New Testament Canon. That is a good bit when you THINK about it.
Paul had written a lot to this church and all of it mattered to him. He knew he was not long for this side of eternity. He knew that very soon he would be killed and would be in heaven with the Lord. He wanted to give them some encouragement they could use! So, he said, What ever is true... think about that. Whatever is right, think about that too! Whatever is pure and lovely... yes, think about that as well! Whatever is admirable... whatever is excellent or worthy of praise... let your mind focus on these things continually! These are the things that should fill our minds!
I think that when I sit down to watch TV the next time I am going to read this passage first... As the show comes on I can ask myself "is there anything worthy of this passage in what I am getting ready to watch?" If not, I will go do something else! Perhaps I will just grade papers or something... Perhaps I will cook something for Sandy. Considering what is usually on TV, I will probably be cooking all the time. I know I can do better than what I have been doing if I change my focus to what is important to HIM.
